Anthony also completed a Bachelor of Business from the University of Technology Sydney, holds a UEFA C certificate in football coaching and, at one stage in his youth, was a qualified ski instructor with the Canadian Ski Instructors Alliance (CSIA) but that’s lapsed now and is not really relevant here.
Anthony’s working career has focused on tax and business services, with a majority of clients either owning their own businesses or being the Australian based operations of an overseas corporation. The industries have ranged from wholesale to retail, primary production, doctors, lawyers, bankers, importers and IT just to mention a few. He also has experience with everything from not for profit organisations and charities through to international companies with turnovers calculated in hundreds of millions of dollars.
In addition to his business experience in tax and accounting he also used to write the occasional article for the South China Morning Post newspaper in Hong Kong.
Personal
On the rare occasions that he manages to escape from in front of the computer screen, his time is spent with his growing family or, whenever time allows, at the beach (Manly or Big Wave Bay for preference). He still manages to holiday at a ski resort at least once a year, although at the moment, you're more likely to find him on the blue slopes with his kids than on some remote ungroomed run. The decision to become a chartered accountant rather than following an endless winter around the world as a ski and snowboard instructor is not one he regrets as often as you might think.
He's a supporter of the Sydney Swans, followed the Socceroos to Germany in 2006 and Brazil in 2014 for the World Cups and honestly (perhaps forlornly) believes Australia will one day win the real world cup.
He's not climbed Mount Everest, landed on The Moon, discovered a cure for cancer, played for the Socceroos, heliskied/boarded in Alaska, nor been awarded a Noble prize...yet
He has however achieved lot of good results for his clients.
Burling Consulting was setup in Hong Kong when Anthony moved from Sydney in 2010 bringing his extensive knowledge and experience with him to Hong Kong. Since then we have been helping our clients, in Australia and around the world, deal with all their Australian tax, regulatory and business issues.
